A reconstruction of an alley in Baghdad at the Babylonian Jewry Museum

This reconstructed lane shows visitors a section of a typical alley in the old Jewish quarter in Baghdad at the beginning of the 20th century.

One can see typical homes dispersed along the alley, whose ground floors facing the street served as workshops and stores and were a source of livelihood for the Jews, who worked in trades such as goldsmithing, silversmithing tailoring and embroidery as well as in shops selling fabrics and spices.
